Without Walls

“A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.” (Proverbs 25:28)

Back when this verse was written, a city without walls was a city that was vulnerable to attack.  And although there were limitations associated with city walls, they were ultimately constructed to protect the inhabitants from their enemies.

Self-control is the same way.  Exhibiting self-control puts limitations on our actions, but it ultimately protects us from the dangers associated with pride and selfishness.

Without walls of self-control in our lives, we are defenseless from our enemy’s attacks.
