Letting Go…At Least For Now

November 29, 2010 1 comment

Letting go is tough to do sometimes.  “Let go” is something I’ve been hearing God say to me regarding my blog.

Blogging began as a personal discipline, and there are times when it proves to be beneficial to me, and maybe a few others, but I know, and have known for awhile, that it’s not the best use of my time right now.

There are other things that could, and should, occupy my time as I follow God’s plan for me to plant a New Church in Winston-Salem, NC.

This doesn’t mean I’ll never blog again, but I have to obey what God is saying and let go for now.  In case you’re interested, I’ll still be somewhat active on Twitter and Facebook.

Yesterday the New Church Launch Team worshiped Jesus through serving our community!  We’ve been working with a couple of schools in the area whose social workers are helping us identify families that have needs.  By investing in these families, we are able to live out our core values and provide for them tangible reminders of the love Jesus has for them.

We divided our team into four groups, and each group delivered complete Thanksgiving meals, including turkeys and all the fixin’s, to families that might not otherwise have a nice Thanksgiving dinner.  We were also able to pray with each family and tell them how much Jesus loves them!

Below are some pictures of the new friends my family met as a result of this community outreach project.

Thank you to those who are investing financially in the ministry of New Church!  Your generosity is making a difference in the lives of the people of Winston-Salem for the cause of Jesus Christ!

Mission Specific

November 19, 2010 Leave a comment

You were created to accomplish a shared mission through a specific assignment!  Here is the mission:

“Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.  Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.  And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.'” (Matthew 28:18-20)

The first objective in this mission is for you to share the good news that people can experience new life in Jesus Christ by placing their faith in what he accomplished through his death and resurrection!  The second objective is for you to help people grow in their faith!

Because we are all created with unique gifts, talents, and abilities, the way we go about this shared mission may look different from church to church or person to person.

The message and the objectives of the shared mission do not change, but how we communicate them may vary according to the specific assignment we’ve been given.

You Matter to God

November 18, 2010 Leave a comment

You were created to know God and to have a relationship with him!   Human beings are the only part of God’s creation made in his image.  That’s why we are able to know God, love him, and make the conscious decision to follow and worship him.

Although God desires a relationship with us, he doesn’t need us.  God was okay before we came along.  But the fact that he wants us when he doesn’t need us shows how much we matter to him!  You matter to God.

You and I were created to reflect the glory of God!  We were designed in a unique way, by God himself, for the purpose of directing peoples’ attention to his already perfect characteristics and attributes!

Romans 11:36 says, “For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory…”

When we choose to follow God’s purpose for our lives, we show how much we value who God is and what he’s done for us.  When we live our lives in line with Scripture, we are reflecting who he intended for us to be, and he is glorified!

Does your life reflect the glory of God?
