Volunteer Leader Spotlight: Joshua Black

Meet Joshua Black.  Josh is a student at Winston-Salem State University, and I can’t tell you how grateful I am for this young man.  Since I first met Josh, he’s been willing to do whatever it takes to help advance the vision of New Church.

Josh leads our Prayer Team on Sunday mornings, and he also volunteers on our Set-up and Tear Down Teams, as well as with our Guest Services Team as a greeter.

Because he’s so passionate about what God has called us to do, I asked him to answer these 2 questions: “Why New Church?” and “Why volunteer?”  Below is what he had to say.

Why New Church?

“The vision of New Church is right in line with my desire to see people far from God experience new life in Jesus Christ!  Our tag line is “its church…just different,” which it truly is. Whether it’s a secular song to open up the worship set, the lights, videos, practical preaching, or loud music with bass thumping, the service is beyond dope.  I’m an urban, hip hop, tattoo wearing, loud music type of guy, so New Church is perfect for me.”

Why Volunteer?

I was a part of the core team, and before we even launched the church, we were being the church.  We were in the community doing coat drives, sponsoring families for thanksgiving and Christmas,  just to name a few outreach opportuities.   I saw the need for a church like New Church first hand.  I look at volunteering as an act of worship and a response to my relationship with God.  Not only that, but it’s biblical, and when you meet people with a vision much like Jesus had to reach the lost, sick, and hurt, I had to jump on board and be a part of something that is going to change lives forever.

New Church truly mirrors Jesus’ ministry and the early church.  I love being around people who have a passion to serve, and not only that, but people who are genuine about it.  There are no hidden agendas, no egos, no incentives needed; just people who genuinely love you the second they meet you and truly have a passion to do whatever it takes to reach the lost, sick, and hurt.  Why not volunteer along side people like that?

Well said, Josh.  Thanks for all you do to serve as a Volunteer Leader and to cast vision for New Church!  You can read more about the vision and mission of New Church at www.newchurchnc.org.

You rock, Josh. I enjoyed the interview and receiving the handshake with a big smile at the door each Sunday.
